According to UK motoring laws, every vehicle owner needs to possess a vehicle insurance policy. If you are looking into buying a commercial van insurance policy, you should know that commercial van insurance is of three types :
Fully Comprehensive Van Insurance
This is a full insurance policy that provides coverage to all types of risks. It will cover your vehicles for accidents, collisions, damages, theft, fire and vandalism. It will also give coverage to third party vehicles and incidents of accidental damage, burglaries, fire and theft attempts. Physical and bodily injuries to yourself and third parties are also covered in fully comprehensive commercial van insurance. The third party can be a single person or can be a company. Fully comprehensive policies are generally more costly compared to other types of insurance policies.
Third Party Fire & Theft Van Insurance
This is an upgraded version of third party insurance. Included in third party fire & theft insurance is coverage for your vans in case of theft, vandalism, fire damage, accident, lightning or explosions. However, if an uninsured driver collides with your van, you cannot claim damages for your van.
Third Party Commercial Van Insurance
This is the simplest and least costly of all van insurances. It is also the minimum requirement of vehicle insurance as per the Road Traffic Act. Third party commercial van insurance only covers those injuries and damages that are inflicted upon third parties. In case your commercial van runs over someone else’s property, you will have to pay for the damages as specified in your third party van insurance.
There are some basic things to keep in mind when you are buying commercial van insurance like :
- Coverage : You need to find out what type of coverage your vans require; third party or comprehensive.
- Usage : How much and how long do your vans ply the roads. This is information that you need to give a commercial insurer.
- Exclusions : Some insurers will not cover you if you do not have security devices installed in your vans.
- Benefits : Find out what benefits you will get from the insurance company. It could be a replacement vehicle, no claims bonus or legal expenses.
